Doyen of the spoken word and master of spectacular prose, no epithet is too flowery to describe Stuart Hall's unique reporting style.
Stuart has been broadcasting in his inimitable way for nearly 50 years for the BBC and currently works for BBC Radio 5 Live as a football reporter.
Born in Cheshire, Stuart studied at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology before joining the BBC in 1959.
He began his career as a general reporter on Radio Newsreel and a sports journalist on Sports Report, where he still broadcasts in its current home of 5 Live.
Between 1965 and 1990 Stuart presented the BBC's North West regional news programme and became familiar to viewers throughout the North of England, well known for his closing remark: "I wish you, as always, a fond farewell."
For several years during the Eighties, Stuart hosted the show alongside John Mundy, before moving in 1990 to Granada Reports where he teamed up with Bob Greaves for some light hearted banter in a slot titled Greaves And Hall.
Stuart is still probably best known as the presenter of It's A Knockout for BBC Television between 1971 and 1982 and its European equivalent, Jeux Sans Frontières. During the programme he would often be carried away by the slapstick humor of the competition and become incoherent with laughter.
Stuart's other TV work has included being a commentator on Match Of The Day and presenter of Quiz Ball and Going, Going, Gone – all for the BBC.
Stuart currently works as a football reporter for 5 Live and is renowned for his unique reports scattered with all manner of linguistic tricks.
He is married with two children and is well known for his love of Manchester City FC. He also possesses an extensive collection of clocks including one that was once owned by Napoleon.
