Mike is the Chief Football Correspondent on Radio 5 Live, and a key part of the 5 Live commentary team throughout the Premiership season and in Euro 2008.

He has commentated on numerous World Cups and European Championships throughout the last 20 years, including 13 penalty shoot-outs, and is about to commentate on his 12th tournament and sixth European Championship – his first without England's involvement.

Mike names his favourite tournaments in order of preference as Italia 90, Euro 96 and USA 94.

Mike started his career at BBC Radio Derby, and he joined the BBC Radio Sport team nearly 30 years ago.

Mike presented Sport On 2 on Radio 2 before becoming a football commentator in 1984.

Mike also occasionally presented Andy Peebles's show on Radio 1 in the early Eighties, and is a keen record collector and music fan.

Born in Cheshire in 1950, Mike now lives with wife Lorna and their family in Buckinghamshire.
