Mike was born in Norwich in 1970, but it wasn't until 1993 that he made his broadcasting debut as a volunteer football reporter for BBC Radio Norfolk.

At the time he was still studying for a media diploma but, once his studies were completed, he began his radio career in earnest.

After spending three-and-a-half years learning his trade, Mike left Radio Norfolk to become Sports Editor at BBC Radio Northampton, where he fulfilled a lifetime's ambition of commentating at Wembley Stadium.

He joined BBC Radio Sport and the BBC Radio 5 Live team in late 1999. Since then, he has become a regular voice at football matches on Saturday Sport on 5 Live and has covered several high-profile events.

Mike has reported at two Commonwealth Games, the 2004 Paralympics, Wimbledon and The Open golf, and spent the 2005 Formula One season patrolling the pit lane in search of driver interviews.

He still has another ambition to fulfil and that is to commentate at the new Wembley!
