John is a BBC Radio 5 Live football and golf commentator.

 

John was born in 1966 and was brought up on the family farm in Northumberland, which straddles Hadrian's Wall.

 

John was educated at Haydon Bridge High School before going to the University of Wales, in Lampeter, where he gained a degree in geography.

 

After completing the postgraduate radio journalism course in Darlington, he began his career in the commercial sector at TFM Radio on Teesside before joining the BBC in 1994 when he moved to Radio Cleveland.

 

A year later, John transferred to the BBC Radio Sport department in London and, by 1998, he had become part of the football commentary team.

 

When he is not covering football, John commentates on golf and has also dabbled in cricket.

 

He lives in North Yorkshire with his family.
