Ian Brown

Radio 5 Live reporter and commentator

Ian has worked for the BBC since 1985 when he became the youngest ever presenter of Sports Desks, which were then on BBC Radio 2.

From 1988 to 1995 he was the presenter of the Saturday afternoon programme Sportstime on BBC Radio Wales, and was also the main BBC Wales television commentator on football – covering many international and European fixtures. He also reported from two Commonwealth Games.

In 1995, Ian joined BBC Radio 5 Live and has covered every European Championship since Euro 96 and the last three World Cups. He has also commentated on the Champions League final four times, the Premiership-deciding match four times and two League Cup finals. Ian has also appeared on Match Of The Day.

Away from football he has covered rugby union (including the 1995 World Cup) and boxing, with commentaries on Nigel Benn, Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed, Joe Calzaghe and many others.

Ian, who was born in Cardiff, has also reported on athletics and cricket and, back in his newspaper days, on rugby league, golf and yachting.
