Alison Mitchell was part of BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra's commentary team at the ICC Twenty20 tournament in South Africa in September 2007.
Alison's first experience at the BBC was with BBC Radio Northampton, where she worked as a part-time Broadcast Assistant whilst studying for A-levels at Wellingborough School.
After completing a Geography degree, Alison trained in Broadcast Journalism at Falmouth College of Arts. BBC Radio Cornwall provided her first experience of live cricket, football and rugby reporting before she worked for BBC Radio Leicester.
In 2002 she joined the BBC Asian Network where international cricket formed the main part of her reporting duties, but she also covered boxing. She is now part of BBC Radio Sport, doing most of her work on 5 Live.
During the summer, Alison is one of 5 Live's voices of county cricket, both commentating and reporting.
She made her first formal appearance on Test Match Special in June 2007 as a roving reporter for the Twenty20 Internationals against the West Indies.
Before that, she contributed during the World Cup of 2007 when she commentated on Ireland's historic victory over Pakistan. Subsequently she found herself reporting on the death of Bob Woolmer for all BBC networks as she was the last person to interview the former Pakistan coach.
Highlights of Alison's career to date include being a boundary commentator during the momentous Oval Test when England regained the Ashes in 2005. She then travelled to Pakistan to cover England's winter tour that year.
