Aasmah Mir presents the Midday News on BBC Radio 5 Live, Monday to Friday, 12.00–1.00pm.

Born and brought up in Glasgow, of Pakistani parents, Aasmah graduated from Bristol University with an honours law degree in 1993. She began her career in broadcasting at 21, reading the news for Scottish Television, where she stayed until 1995.

She then worked for the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, before joining BBC Radio Scotland as a current affairs producer. In 1998 she moved to Central TV in Nottingham as a reporter.

In 1999, Aasmah shifted to London as a producer for GLR (now BBC London) and started doing freelance newsreading shifts for Radio 5 Live. She joined the station full-time in July 2001. Aasmah presented the Weekend News and Drive for the network before moving to the midday slot in 2006.

Alongside her radio presenting, Aasmah has a passion for current affairs and culture. She wrote a weekly column for the Sunday Herald newspaper in 2005 and 2006. She has also presented on the BBC TV programmes East and Desi DNA. And she has presented documentaries for Radio Scotland and the BBC Asian Network.

In November 2007, Aasmah presented the Midday News from Glasgow as the announcement was made that the city would host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

In December 2007, the Midday News won the Plain English Campaign award for best national radio programme.

Aasmah lists her passions as "anything Scottish" – including Celtic, her two nephews, radio, and clothes and shoes – not necessarily in that order.
