Canon Roger Royle was ordained in the Church of England in 1962 and served his first curacy at St Mary's, Portsea, Portsmouth.

In a varied career, he has also served as Conduct and Senior Chaplain of Eton College.

In 1979, his ministry took a total change - he left Eton and became a non-stipendary curate in the Diocese of Southwark. He worked as the promoter of a preventative medicine campaign for Save the Children.

After much knocking on doors, Roger began a new life in broadcasting.

Roger Royle presented Sunday Half Hour on Radio 2 for 16 years until his retirement in April 2007. He can still be heard on Radio 2 as a regular contributor to Pause For Thought on Wake Up To Wogan.

Roger has also presented Good Morning Sunday on Radio 2 and A Royle Tour, a series of programmes which took listeners on a guide behind the scenes of some of Europe's most beautiful and historic buildings.

He has presented his own television series, Royle Progress, for Southern Television, and The Royle Line for Ulster Television.

He has also fronted Songs Of Praise on BBC ONE and a network slot on a show transmitted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Roger writes a regular column for Woman's Weekly and has written several books: A Few Blocks From Broadway, Royle Exchange, To Have And To Hold, Picking Up The Pieces, Mother Teresa - Her Life in Pictures and Between Friends.

In 1990 he was honoured by the Archbishop Of Canterbury with a Lambeth Degree in recognition of his work in the media.
