Andrew Harding was appointed Asia Correspondent in the spring
of 2004.
Since then he has reported from Thailand and Aceh,
Indonesia, on the tsunami, and has also worked in Burma, Japan, East
Timor and South Korea.
From 2000 to 2004 he was East Africa Correspondent,
based in Nairobi.
He reported from conflict zones in Congo, Somalia, Sudan,
Burundi and Liberia, and won a Bayeux War Correspondent's award and
a Foreign Press Association award for his work in Northern Uganda.
Andrew was embedded with British forces during the Iraq
war, and covered the US-led attack on the Taleban in Afghanistan.
Previously, from 1996 to 2000, he worked as BBC Moscow
Correspondent, covering issues such as the second Chechen war, the sudden
resignation of Yeltsin and the appointment of his successor President
Putin.
Between 1991 and 1994 he worked as a freelance journalist
in Moscow, followed by two years as the BBC Caucasus Correspondent.
His work then included coverage of the first Chechen
war and the Russian Parliament rebellion of 1993.
Andrew attended the University of London to attain his
Broadcast Journalist Diploma after graduating from Cambridge with BA
Hons in English Literature.
