As BBC Future Media & Technology's Chief Operating Officer since 2002, Sharmila Nebhrajani is responsible for the operational management, financial and business strategy, value for money, risk management, internal control and editorial affairs of the BBC's Future Media & Technology division.
She manages an annual budget of £500m spent on digital content, applications and technology for the BBC website and digital television services.
Nebhrajani champions cultural change through her work and is driving the metamorphosis of the BBC from a traditional broadcaster to a new media organisation that, among other things, facilitates communication among users.
Prior to this she worked on major BBC joint ventures and acquisitions and was responsible for driving and reporting on operational performance management across all the BBC's services.
By virtue of her non-executive leadership positions with the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority and the Human Tissue Authority, Nebhrajani is also engaged in some of the most complex ethical issues of our time, including the creation of saviour siblings, stem cell research and live organ transplantation.
