Ed Williams has worked in communications in both a consultancy and in-house setting.
In his current role as Director of Communications at the BBC, he advises the Director-General and Board on managing the Corporation's reputation, and has responsibility for all external and internal communications.
Before joining the BBC, he was Director of Corporate Affairs at Reuters, where he led the company's communications around the deal with The Thomson Corporation.
Prior to that, he was Director of Corporate Communications for 3, Hutchinson Whampoa's telecoms business in the UK.
He spent almost six years at Brunswick Group LLP, advising on media relations, corporate positioning, crisis management and campaigns, as well as merger and acquisition communications.
In an individual capacity, he worked as media consultant to General Wesley Clark during his time as a witness at the Milosevic trial, and Emma Bonino, who is currently Minister for International Trade and European Affairs, in the Romano Prodi government.
Ed has also been a pro-bono adviser to the International Crisis Group, the non-profit conflict resolution organisation, and the International Center for Transitional Justice.
He also has experience as a political speech writer.
Ed Williams started his career in journalism, working at Reuters Television and GMTV in various positions including producer, on-screen reporter and News Editor.
He trained as a journalist at London News Service and spent time as freelance news features writer at the Independent.
He is currently completing an MSc in American Politics.
He graduated with a Batchelor of Music degree from the University of London.
