Chris Kane joined the BBC in January 2004 as Head of Corporate Real Estate. Under his leadership the Property Department has been restructured and relaunched as BBC Workplace.
As Head of BBC Workplace he is responsible for the development, financing and implementation of the BBC's property strategy and for managing the team that is providing the right workplace for the most creative organisation in the world.
The BBC's real estate portfolio comprises about 500 properties and 616,000 square metres of space across the UK.
The most recent major developments include the award-winning Scottish headquarters at Pacific Quay (34,000 sq m),the award-winning BBC Media Village (49,145 sq m) at White City in London and the Mailbox (9,290 sq m), home to BBC Birmingham.
The organisation is currently undertaking major property projects at MediaCityUK in north west England where the BBC is anchor tenant (30,000 sq m) at the major new media community at Salford Quays, and central London at Broadcasting House (47,000 sq m), which will be the new home for all BBC Journalism and Audio and Music operations.
Across the UK a raft of further developments is under way and there are recently completed new premises in Hull, Leeds, Coventry and Liverpool.
Throughout 2005/2006 Chris Kane oversaw the restructuring of the BBC's property partnership with Land Securities Trillium, and the re-procurement of the organisation's facilities and construction management operations.
Chris Kane is also currently a non-executive Board Member to the Network Housing Group and also served on the Board of Laganside Corporation, a public sector body responsible for the regeneration of Belfast's Waterfront which during its lifetime saw the creation of 14,000 jobs and investment of £1billion.
Prior to joining the BBC, he was Vice-President of International Corporate Real Estate for the Walt Disney Company where he managed Disney's international portfolio.
Before moving to Disney, Chris Kane was a Partner in Jones Lang Wootton where he was integral in launching a new service for clients, Corporate Real Estate Services.
Chris Kane has an MBA from the Henley Management College, as well as a Diploma in Project Management from the College of Estate Management and a BSc Honours in Surveying from Trinity College Dublin. He also holds a Masters in Corporate Real Estate.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Member of CoreNet Global, a Member of Association of Project Managers and a Member of the Association of Chartered Management Institute.
