Mike Embley presents news bulletins on BBC World News. He has been working as presenter, reporter and producer with the BBC since 1983, traveling throughout the world.
Born in Surrey, Mike trained as a journalist with Thomson daily papers in Wales, on the South Wales Echo and Western Mail. He moved on to producing, reporting and presenting TV news for BBC Wales.
In 1987 Mike moved into network television, reporting for Watchdog and then joining the current affairs series Public Eye. Filming in the United States for Public Eye, he reported live for 24 hours from the 1989 San Francisco earthquake.
Mike has been a producer and reporter for Channel 4 News and all main BBC News bulletins, and reported two films for Panorama. He was also series presenter for BBC Two's Nature.
In 1995, Mike became a live studio presenter for BBC World News but two years later was asked to anchor the BBC's Newsroom South East. After four years there he returned to BBC World News and the BBC News Channel, and since 2002 he's been regularly fronting live bulletins on both channels, including World News Today. He's also hosted many one-to-one interviews for BBC World News' HARDtalk.
Back on the road for several weeks each year, Mike's reported three critically-acclaimed series for BBC World Service radio – The Politics Of Water, The Psychology Of Consumerism, and Inside The World Of Google.
Mike lives in London and is a keen cyclist, canal-boater and self-confessed music obsessive.
