Since 2006 Dharshini David has fronted the BBC’s financial coverage in New York, presenting the 30 minute World Business Report every weekday for BBC World. She also reports on stories affecting Wall Street for programmes across the BBC.

Her move to the US followed six years reporting and presenting for BBC News in London. Dharshini’s expertise in economic, business and consumer affairs was reflected in assignments for BBC ONE, BBC News 24 and BBC radio. She has presented for Panorama, the corporation’s flagship documentary series, whilst also presented the financial shows, World Business Report and Business Today in London between 2004 and 2006.

Dharshini was born and brought up in London. By the time she left school she had already decided to train as an economist and went on to read Economics at Downing College, University of Cambridge. After graduating she joined Oxford Economic Forecasting, an independent think tank, before moving to the UK Government Economic Service. In 1996 Dharshini joined the trading floor of HSBC Investment Bank in London, as the company's UK Economist.

In 2000, HSBC's UK team won The Independent newspaper’s "Golden Guru" award for the accuracy of its forecasts. As well as briefing traders and clients and writing research reports, Dharshini also got her first taste of broadcasting during this time, frequently taking part in television and radio interviews and debates.

At the end of 2000, Dharshini decided to combine her economic and broadcasting skills by joining BBC News. Major stories she has since covered include the slump in global economic markets after September 11, the Worldcom and Enron scandals, the downfall of media tycoon Conrad Black and trade wars between the US and Europe. She has also provided expert analysis of UK Budget statements. Leading figures Dharshini has interviewed range from the former World Bank chief Paul Wolfowitz through to the Star Wars actress Natalie Portman.
