Vijay gained an MA in Social Work from Warwick University and worked as a Race Relations Advisor with Leicestershire County Council and a social worker with Nottinghamshire County Council.
Vijay joined the BBC in the late eighties as a freelancer for BBC Radio Leicester.
She progressed from Education Producer, to Senior Broadcast
Journalist and eventually Managing Editor of the Asian Network when it launched
in 1996 as a local station in the Midlands.
Vijay took the station into a new era when she was the Managing Editor as the station was launched as a national DAB service in October 2002.
She has been at the forefront of the changes to the Network
in 2005/6.
