BBC Magazines licenses Lonely Planet Magazine in Singapore

Lonely Planet Magazine launched a pan-Asian edition of its monthly travel title in Singapore on Monday 3rd May 2010. The magazine is published under licence following a partnership deal between BBC Magazines and Regent Media Pte Ltd.

The editor is Joyceline Tully and the publisher at Regent Media is Cecilia Woo. The first edition is now on sale across Asia, with a cover price of S$7.50 and the initial print run is 80,000.

This marks the fifth international edition of Lonely Planet Magazine since its launch in the UK in November 2008.

BBC Worldwide's Licensing Manager in Asia-Pacific, Chun Leong Ong said: "The launch of a Pan-Asian edition of Lonely Planet Magazine is a significant move towards our ambition to become the world’s leading travel title. BBC Magazines already has a strong working relationship with Regent Media and we have high hopes that travellers across Asia will embrace Lonely Planet Magazine’s inspiring features and practical advice."

Regent Media's Cecilia Woo said: "In recent years, there has been an increase in demand for quality travel products in Asia, as markets evolve and consumers become more savvy. Lonely Planet Magazine is perfectly positioned to cater to this growing market in Asia."

The Asian edition of Lonely Planet Magazine is on sale in selected territories throughout Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Shanghai.

Lonely Planet Magazine
launched in the UK in November 2008 and recorded an audited circulation of 45,052 in Jul-Dec 2009. The title combines the BBC's expertise in quality programming on travel and world cultures with Lonely Planet’s reputation as a leading global travel brand. The title is now published under licence in Brazil, Spain and France, and in India under a joint venture agreement. More international deals are already in the pipeline.

Regent Media was established in 1999 and has grown to become one of Singapore's most dynamic publishing houses. Publisher of several leading titles, including Wheels Asia, Golf Asia, Football Weekly, escape!, Car Buyers' Guide, BPL Season Guide, The Travel Times and The Corporate Traveller, Regent Media has since expanded its distribution operations beyond Singapore’s shores. Regent Media also publishes BBC Magazines' title BBC Knowledge (launched September 2009).
