BBC Worldwide Music announces today that Robbie Williams' BBC Electric Proms performance, which was broadcast to over 250 cinema screens across 23 countries, has set a new Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous cinematic screenings of a live concert. The sell-out London concert is also being screened in to an 8,000 seater auditorium in Mexico City on October 31st, 18 cinemas in Australia on the 6th November and 20 cinemas in South Africa on the 13th November.
Tens of thousands of the Stoke-born entertainer's fans across Europe simultaneously experienced the concert as it happened in high-definition in what has now been confirmed by Guinness World Records as the largest cinematic live music event of its kind ever seen.
Robbie's Electric Proms performance showcased new material from his forthcoming album 'Reality Killed the Video Star' as well as some of his classic tracks accompanied by a string section, horn section and a full band, all under the musical direction of Trevor Horn. The last time he entered the record books was when his epic Close Encounters tour in 2006 set a sold 1.6 million tickets in a single day.
Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said: "It's been a few years since we've seen Robbie in the record books, so it's great to see him back on stage and breaking records. Robbie's been a multiple Guinness World Record holder thanks to his phenomenal chart successes in the past, and I'm sure this new record for most simultaneous cinematic screenings of a live concert will be the first of many more to come."
Stephen Davies, Director of Audio & Music at BBC Worldwide said: "We knew that there would be significant interest in this concert, but the public reaction has exceeded all of our expectations. In order to break the world record you need to have a superstar performance and Robbie's was just that. We're thrilled that we've been able to bring this outstanding event to audiences across the world."
Due to Robbie William's huge international popularity not only did he break records in cinemas but also the Robbie Williams concert reached an estimated accumulated 33 million radio audience across 22 radio stations in Europe and overseas.
Enthusiastic fans were able to listen to Robbie across Europe as a simulcast to the BBC Radio 1 broadcast at 21.00 UK time.
BBC Worldwide Music is thrilled to give Robbie’s international fans the opportunity to join in with this event which follows the success of the international theatrical release of BBC Last Night of the Proms to cinema audiences this Autumn. BBC Worldwide Music has partnered again with BY Experience to bring this unique event to audiences worldwide.
