BBC Worldwide announced today the series pickup of NBC's Great American Road Trip by NBC. The series will debut on July 1 from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. EST, and continue for eight weeks.
Developed by the BBC Worldwide teams in Los Angeles, New York and London, the show will be produced by the company's LA studio, BBC Worldwide Productions. The American version will be the first for the format, though versions in other territories are in discussion.
The series will follow several families as they embark on an unforgettable road trip adventure across America, while competing in a series of entertaining challenges during their 6,000-mile journey. The final family will go home with a life-changing prize.
"The Road Trip is the quintessential American family vacation," commented Jane Tranter, EVP Programming and Production, BBC Worldwide Productions. "We are happy to be working with NBC to bring this fun and refreshing show to the air. There will be lots of laughs as viewers follow contestants on incredible journeys through this country’s beautiful and iconic regions."
BBC Worldwide Productions is currently in production on the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars on ABC, Real Estate Road Test and Moving Up on TLC, a pilot of Absolutely Fabulous, a scripted comedy, for Fox, a pilot of The Week the Women Went for Lifetime and additional unscripted pilots for various cable networks.
