Radio 1 Established 1967 climbed straight into the no.1 spot in the midweek compilation charts today outselling the no.2 Album, High School Musical by almost three to one.
The album, only released on Monday through Universal Music, celebrates the 40th anniversary of Radio 1.
It features 40 exclusively recorded covers of tracks by artists including Kasabian, Girls Aloud and Calvin Harris from each of the last 40 years that Radio 1 has been on air.
Dominic Walker, Head of Licensing at BBC Worldwide comments: "I am delighted with the success of this album. It's thanks to the support of all the artists involved, who gave their time and resources to help celebrate Radio 1's 40th birthday, and the fantastic team at UMTV especially Brian Berg, Paul Chisnall and Simon King."
