BBC Worldwide Press Releases

BBC Worldwide announce global rights deals for two new children's shows

BBC Worldwide have been awarded the global rights to two stunning new pre-school programmes Harry and Toto and 3rd and Bird!.

Harry and Toto is a 26 x 10 minute flash animation series for pre-schoolers from Handle and Spout Productions. BBC Worldwide has secured world TV rights (excluding the USA, non French speaking Canada and Poland) and all other world rights including DVD, interactive and merchandise.

Paul Shuttleworth, formerly Executive Producer at CBeebies, has created an opposite world for Harry the Hare and Toto the Tortoise. They live at opposite ends of Opposite town and by tackling opposite combinations in every episode they realise that to every fast there is a slow and for every door that closes, another opens. The series will air in Spring 2008.

3rd & Bird! is a 26 x 30 minute animation series from independent production company Little Airplane Productions. The deal sees BBC Worldwide take on cross-media rights including global programme distribution, merchandising and DVD.

The series was created by Josh Selig – creator of the internationally-successful series The Wonder Pets! 3rd & Bird will be animated in Little Airplane's unique style known as 'photo-puppetry animation'. Each episode is filled with music and songs and features Samuel Lovebird, an adorable young bird who is learning all about his family, his community and his friends. The visually striking new series is due to make its debut on CBeebies in Autumn 2008.

Gill Pritchard, Director of Children's, BBC Worldwide, says: "We are delighted to add these fantastic new shows to our already strong portfolio. Both programmes have the quality you would expect from a CBeebies programme along with truly unique visual styles which will translate fantastically well into merchandise."
