SYDNEY: Major new series starring James Nesbitt and Billie Piper will air on ABC TV after the conclusion of a series of drama, natural history and entertainment deals with BBC Worldwide Australasia.
James Nesbitt plays Jekyll (6 x 50') in Hartswood Films' riveting, contemporary take on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic thriller.
There's a new Dr Jekyll, with an old problem - Mr Hyde. But the pair has a deal - a body share - and an impossible life is somehow lived. But Hyde doesn't know that Jekyll is married…
Billie Piper (Doctor Who) introduces her straight-shooting, Hindi speaking, Victorian heroine Sally Lockhart to ABC TV screens in the 1 x 90' BBC / WGBH Boston co-productions, The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North.
Orphaned in mysterious circumstances, Sally is being hunted and must discover why. More stunning contemporary drama is on the slate with The State Within (6 x 60'), a BBC / BBC America co-production set at the British Embassy in Washington DC. Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, Black Hawk Down) plays Ambassador Mark Brydon, who realises he is being played like a pawn in the aftermath of a terrorist disaster.
ABC TV also acquired two major new natural history titles from the BBC's Sydney office.
Galapagos is a 3 x 50' series from the BBC's Natural History Unit and National Geographic. Presented in a pioneering new visual style, it is filmed entirely in HD. Combined with stunning cinematography, it examines the magnificent diversity of wildlife and evokes the varying characters of the islands.
Wild Caribbean, a 4 x 50' BBC / Travel Channel co-production, illustrates the magic and the excitement of the Caribbean, and reveals what really lies behind this violent paradise.
Peter Davison (The Last Detective, Doctor Who) and Pippa Haywood (Green Wing) star in Fear, Stress and Anger (6 x 30') the Hartswood Films comedy about the decline of the baby boomer. Martin and Julie Chadwick try drugs, therapy and new jobs to combat middle age, but Martin's unerring ability to screw up absolutely everything, combined with Julie's rampant neuroses just add to the fear, the stress and the anger.
"This is a great range of programming, and a testament to the wide appeal of BBC content," said Amber Knight, BBC Worldwide's Senior Sales Manager, Australasia.
