BBC Worldwide sells 200 hours of programming to NOS

MIPTV, Cannes - BBC Worldwide, Europe’s number one exporter of television programmes, today announced the sale of 200 hours of programming to Dutch national broadcaster, NOS, which is part of Netherlands Public Broadcasting (NPB).


The significant deal, which follows hot on the heels of BBC Showcase, sees NOS acquiring some of the newest additions to BBC Worldwide’s drama, factual and comedy catalogues.


The edgy new drama Born Equal, starring Colin Firth and Robert Carlyle, has been acquired by the broadcaster as well as stunning new adaptations of Jane Austen’s much loved tales Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. The latest series’ of drama favourites Spooks and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries are also included in the drama package.


NPB have also bought Michael Palin’s newest offering, New Europe with Michael Palin, comedy titles including The Omid Djalili Show and the third series of The Catherine Tate Show, natural history titles such as Orangutan Diary and nostalgic titles including All Creatures Great and Small.


Richard Hornsby-Smith, Sales Manager for Benelux, BBC Worldwide said, “I’m delighted to be announcing this considerable new deal with NOS, who we’ve been working with for many years. The depth and quality of BBC Worldwide’s catalogue puts us in a great position to broker deals of this size.”


BBC Worldwide has also brokered recent deals with other broadcasters, Tien, RTL and MTV, in the territory. Tien have taken several factual titles including Mission Africa and Survival whilst RTL have taken several documentaries including F*** off I’m a Hairy Woman. Meanwhile MTV have acquired new comedy The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle.
