BBC AMERICA has acquired The Street and Cracker, two powerful new dramas from award-winning writer Jimmy McGovern (Priest, The Lakes).
Set in the North of England, The Street lifts the lid on the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Each emotionally powerful episode, penned by a writer new to television, concentrates on a different house in the street, linked to the others by community and shared experience.
A stunning ensemble cast, including Timothy Spall (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Mr Harvey Lights a Candle), Oscar®-winner Jim Broadbent (Iris, Bridget Jones's Diary), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) and Sue Johnston (Waking the Dead, The Royle Family), deliver performances that are hauntingly real.
The Street is a Granada Production for the BBC. It is produced by Ken Horn and directed by David Blair and Terry McDonough. The executive producers are Sita Williams, Andy Harries and Jimmy McGovern.
BBC AMERICA will also present the U.S. premiere of a brand - new, feature - length episode of Jimmy McGovern's multi-award-winning crime drama, Cracker.
Robbie Coltrane (Harry Potter, Ocean's Twelve) reprises his role as criminal psychologist Dr. Edward 'Fitz' Fitzgerald in one of the UK's most celebrated and acclaimed drama franchises. Back in the UK for his daughter's wedding after 10 years living in Australia, Fitz is lured into a police investigation when a well-connected American comedian becomes the victim of a random killer.
From ITV Productions, Cracker is directed by Antonia Bird, produced by John Chapman and executive produced by Andy Harries.
The Street and Cracker are distributed by Granada International.
