BBC AMERICA acquires the acclaimed UK drama, Life on Mars
BBC AMERICA has today announced the acquisition of the original, critically acclaimed, Life on Mars, the latest hit drama from the UK.
Set in the '70s, Life on Mars (8 x 60') is due to air on BBC AMERICA later this year. It stars John Simm (State of Play, 24 Hour Party People) as Sam Tyler, a driven and ambitious young detective who is determined to keep the streets of modern day Manchester safe.
But, after a near fatal car crash, Sam wakes up dazed, confused and in 1973. Philip Glenister (Byron) co-stars as his new partner, Detective Gene Hunt, a lazy, sexist, corrupt officer of the '70s and the antithesis of everything Sam stands for.
Life on Mars is created and written by Matthew Graham, Tony Jordan and Ashley Pharoah. It is a Kudos production for the BBC with executive producers Jane Featherstone and Matthew Graham. BBC Worldwide Americas completed the deal.
