BBC Library Sales and Spafax Canada win major award in Seattle

Programming from BBC Library Sales, a division of the corporation's main commercial arm BBC Worldwide, has beaten off strong competition from five major international airlines to win a major international in-flight entertainment award.

Library Sales' The Connection is a short programme package which was reproduced as a boarding and arrival video for Air Canada by Spafax Canada, the media content agency specialising in in-flight entertainment. It won the Best Single Special Purpose Video at the 14th Annual Avion Awards, held in Seattle at the Annual Conference and Exhibition of the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA).

The Connection is a musical trip around our world using a simple word and a popular song to connect mankind with nature in all its forms. It comprises 20 short programmes, combining beautiful footage from around the world with some of the best-loved, internationally known classic songs, from jazz and blues, to pop and rock.

Mark Fricker, Director of BBC Library Sales, said "That our programming contributed to such a major award is testament to its diversity, strength and superiority."

Notes to Editors:
BBC Library Sales operates from offices in London and regional offices in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Sydney and Tokyo.

The award-winning Connections boarding and arrival video receives worldwide exposure on Air Canada. Montreal-based Air Canada provides scheduled and charter air transportation to more than 150 destinations on five continents. Canada's flag carrier is the 12th largest commercial airline in the world and serves more than 30 million customers with over 1000 flights a day with a fleet of more than 300 aircraft.

Spafax Canada Inc. is a division of Spafax Airline Network, the largest supplier of inflight entertainment and media management solutions to the world's airlines.
