HUGH: Hello. Our tense today is The Past Perfect.
We use the Past Perfect to make the order of past events clear.

One thing happened in the past - the other thing happened before it ... even longer ago… in the super past, if you like.

Use the Past Perfect to show the order of past events. Use it to talk about an earlier past - the super past.

It’s made with the past tense of ‘have’ and the past participle. ‘I had heard’ - that’s the Past Perfect.

oraz trzeciej formy czasownika leksykalnego – np.

I had met her before you did Poznałem ją zanim ty to zrobiłeś.

Czasu tego używamy, mówiąc o tym, co miało miejsce przed innym wydarzeniem w przeszłości, czyli dla czynności przeszłej, która odbyła się najpierw.
Past -- I had met her (first) -------(then) you met her-- Present

Czynność ‘starszą’, która odbyła się najpierw, wyrażamy czasem Past Perfect (zaprzeszłym), czynność ‘młodszą’, która odbyła się po niej, czasem Simple Past (przeszłym prostym)

kiedy przyszliśmy, impreza się skończyła.
Impreza najpierw się skończyła
it had finished zanim my przyszliśmy before we arrived
