Hugh: Hi. Today we're going to look at a special set of verbs which behave differently from the rest.

Now, most verbs are action verbs and use progressive tenses:
‘ I am talking, you are listening', I hope.

But our verbs today are different - they describe emotions and feelings and they only usually appear in the Present Simple.

They're called ‘stative verbs'.

These are verbs like ‘love' ‘hate' ‘understand' and ‘want'.

czynności zmysłów: see, hear, smell;
uczucia: like, love, hate;

stan posiadania: hale, own, possess;

NB Czasowników tych można użyć w formie ciągłej w szczególnych przypadkach, np. w konstrukcjach emfatycznych I’m loving every minute of it! albo metaforycznych She’s seeing things (Ma przywidzenia)
