She joined the BBC back in 1999 and is now part of the BBC West weather team. Jemma works alongside Richard Angwin and Ian Fergusson, helping to provide forecasts for the whole of the region. Ian and Jemma work mostly on television breakfast and weekend forecasts, as well as providing morning forecasts for BBC local radio stations across Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Swindon and Somerset She is a local girl who grew up in Portishead and is a former pupil of Gordano School. She joined the BBC in the North in 1999 and in 2000 decided to return to her west country roots. She transferred to BBC Bristol to be part of the team behind the BBC's first ever regional website and then moved to BBC Points West working in the cut and thrust of live TV news. Jemma said: "I'd been in journalism for over 12 years and really enjoyed the challenge of working in news and current affairs. But when the local weather presenter jobs came up within the BBC I knew it was a great opportunity - these kind of jobs only come along once in a lifetime. "Journalism is in my blood and I am confident about telling the weather story every day but weather is a science and I have put a lot of effort in to learn as much as I can about it. "I am very lucky that I work with Richard Angwin who is one of the top meteorologists in the country - he's probably forgotten more about weather than I will ever know and is a great person to learn from." Outside of work Jemma is very involved in community events and enjoys the club and music scene in Bristol. last updated: 05/08/2009 at 15:07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Points West > More presenters > Jemma Cooper TOP STORIES
