Andrew has a masters degree in Journalism from Nottingham Trent University. He says he did a lot of difficult jobs to work his way through A Levels, university and his masters degree: "I was a petrol station attendant, mig welder, shop assistant, hotel porter, barman, call centre worker, local council administrator - all the while knowing deep down that I had to stay focused on my goal of becoming a journalist. So now I have my dream job, I feel lucky." His first job for the BBC was as a reporter in Guernsey for BBC Spotlight Channel Islands. He joined Points West in March 2006 and started presenting in October 2007. It's something he always wanted to try, but he got a few years of reporting experience under his belt first. He's passionate about his work: "What do I love about my job? Almost everything - it's hard, fast work that takes over your life." Andrew does leave room for his love of running though : "I run the Bristol and Bath half marathons every year - my best time is 1:47, set in Bath in 2008. "When I'm not at work you can find me running around Leigh Woods or the Downs in Bristol. I also love going back to my home town of Cambridge and spending a sunny day punting on the river." last updated: 04/08/2009 at 16:39 SEE ALSOYou are in: Points West > More presenters > Andrew Plant TOP STORIES
