Points West's Imogen Sellers

Imogen Sellers

Imogen realised she wanted to be a journalist after taking a temporary job during university holidays as a receptionist on the Somerset Standard newspaper in Frome.

She was bitten by the bug.

After hounding the editor of The Bath Chronicle, she was finally taken on as a trainee and soon became the paper's crime reporter.

But the world of radio and TV had always appealed to Imogen and when a new radio station started up in Bath, she was front of the queue when jobs were being handed out.

After six months she joined HTV in Bristol where she had her first unscheduled TV appearance, when the early morning presenter failed to turn up.

When Imogen called her boss to ask what she should do his answer was simple: "you'll have to do it!"

Imogen joined the BBC in January 2001 – and is now a regularly fronts the Ten o’clock news and Points West's main evening programme.

Imogen lives in Bath with her husband Martin and young son Louix and althougth she's lived abroad, the West has always been home.

Brought up in Frome, Somerset, her family moved to Papua New Guinea when she was seven, where they lived for three years.

Imogen grew up watching Points West: "Having watched the programme since I was a little girl, I sometimes find it hard to believe that I'm sitting in the presenter's chair."

Since joining the team, Imogen has covered a variety of stories and says she loves the fact that no one day is the same.

"One day I might be covering a story about hospital waiting lists - the next I'm up at The BBC Fame Academy chatting with Bristol's next pop star wannabe"

Identical twin?

One thing you may have noticed about Imogen is that her appearance can change quite dramatically from one day to the next.

"Naturally, I have very curly hair which can look a bit mad. So, when I'm presenting in the studio I have it straightened - but when I'm reporting live it's often curly.

"People must think I have an identical twin! The problem is my straight hair becomes curly again if I get it wet.

"That was a bit of a problem when I was reporting live from a very wet Bristol Balloon Fiesta.

"By the end of the programme, my smooth straight hair had started to ping into ringlets again!"
