Ali Vowles and Lizzie Way staff the Bath Bureau

Bath Bureau

Ali Vowles and Lizzie Way cover the city and surrounding towns and villages for BBC Points West from the Bath Bureau in Kingsmead Square. Sometimes they work with a camera crew but other times they shoot and edit their own stories.

From the spires of Bath Abbey to the bubbling waters of the city's famous spas the Bath Bureau covers every town, village and hamlet between Marshfield and Midsomer Norton and Melksham to Saltford.

And that means everything from road chaos to farming changes, housing shortages to the promising athletes that come to the area to train for their country.

While the city is renowned for its wealth, heritage and tourism, it's also home to some of Britain's most deprived areas.

Making sure all sides are reflected is a challenge Ali and Lizzie face every day.

Both call the place home, so they see it the same way as everyone else who lives and works in the area.

Covering such a diverse patch can literally have its ups and downs...

While Ali has covered the underground work to shore up the Combe Down Mines, Lizzie has been flying high above Longleat in a fighter jet.

Both have followed the development of the new spa from its original idea to its completion (and every change and controversy in between!)

Ali started her broadcasting career in Bath - working with the BBC community unit and can still be heard every Saturday morning presenting Weekend West on BBC Radio Bristol.

Lizzie moved in more recently:

"I had a job working on a cattle station in the outback of Australia and used to spend hours dreaming about where the best place to live in England would be. Bath was always my top choice so when I came home to blighty I moved to the city," says Lizzie.

"I started work at Points West and have never looked back... certainly not at those smelly cattle in Oz anyway!"

With Ali's background in farming and Lizzie's love (okay, tolerance) of cattle, neither are afraid of getting their hands dirty.

Being able to turn their hand to anything, means you'll sometimes see Ali and Lizzie presenting the news, reporting live or hear them on a story they've filmed and edited themselves.
