one "This is Tehran, the true voice of the Iranian nation, the voice of the revolution. Please pay attention, please pay attention. We will now bring to your attention the latest message of His Eminence The Grand Ayatollah Imam Khomeini, leader of the Iranian nation's movement: "In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. To the Muslim, heroic and struggling nation of Iran.Dear listeners, the time is now three minutes past eleven [in the evening] and now we draw your attention to a message issued by His Eminence Ayatollah Shari'atmadari: `In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. To the zealous and noble people of Iran. Now that, in the shadow of divine succour, your selfless struggle has put paid to the tyrannical regime, and dictatorship has abandoned its last trench, I wish to offer my congratulations to the entire nation of Iran. We are grateful to Almighty God and wish to express our gratitude to the army for responding to the call of the eminent ulema to join the nation. I plead with the rest of the army commanders, officers and NCOs, who have not yet taken the big decision of their lives, to join the people. I would also like to ask the people to be vigilant and confront and crush any conspiracy. Please maintain law and order and safeguard state buildings together with all their files and documents, which belong to the nation. Victory is nigh. General Beiglari, the acting commander of the guards, and General Ali Neshat, commander of the Imperial guard, in their telephone messages announced that the units under their command had not left their barracks since the declaration of the army's neutrality. Their messages read as follows: `We declare total solidarity with the nation and fully obey the instructions that we have been given.` `I wish to announce with pride that the Imperial Guard is part of the nation.` `I wish to ask everyone to try to substantiate every report about the air force before believing them. ` `There are no disconcerting reports about Firouzeh Palace. No-one has attacked it. Just a group of young men are around celebrating and firing into the air in joy. The sound of shooting has scared some families in the vicinity of the building.` [The radio presenter asks] - General, could you please introduce yourself? [He replies] - I am Lt-General Rabi'i, the commander of the air force." |
