Urban Music Scheme 2006 Winners

Twenty-one candidates were shortlisted before attending a three day workshop in Birmingham. The following musicians have all been awarded Urban Music Bursaries to help them develop their musical careers.

£10,000 award winners


Sri McKinnon

Sri McKinnon Location: Brighton
Occupation: Sri runs a PR agency specifically for up-and-coming hip-hop acts.
Sri regularly contributes to Manchester’s ‘Sketch City’ and Leeds ‘Best Joined Up’ live drawing sessions and hopes to launch her own dedicated web portfolio in Spring 2008.

Daniel Richards, aka 2Dark

Daniel Richards Location: Birmingham
Occupation: Daniel is a producer working with local artists in the Midlands.
Since the bursary he has pressed up his debut album called 'Two Sides of the City' which was released in April. He also shot a video in February.


Alex Boateng, aka Twin B

Alex Boateng Location: London
Occupation: Alex, aka 'Twin B', is currently working as a marketing manager in the London area and also spends a lot of his time working around the capital as a successful DJ.

Clive Meaker

Clive Meaker Location: Bristol
Occupation: Clive produces local talent in the Bristol area. He has been working with a producer called Major from the No Apologies Crew. His live act won the Glastonbury Festival Dance act competition and played in the dance tent at the festival.

Mary Afonja

Mary Afonja Location: South London
Occupation: Mary has set up her own artist management company from her base in South London. She has used some of the money to build a website and has been able to print the promotional materials. Mary has been able to secure more projects with different local authorities across London during the year.


Lisa Telfer

Lisa Telfer Location: Leicester
Occupation: Lisa is currently working as an event manager, promoter and public relations manager around Leicester.




Pierre Andrew Neil, aka Swiss

Pierre Andrew Neil Location: London
Occupation: Pierre, aka 'Swiss' is working around London as a songwriter, music artist and producer for other musicians.




Nick Eziefula, aka Yungun

Yungun Location: London
Occupation: Nick, aka 'Yungun', is a London based rapper and songwriter who is also trained as a solicitor. Since winning the award he has toured far and wide (China, Dubai, Australia) and worked with all kinds of amazing artists and is getting closer to finishing his musical masterpiece; his new solo album The Middle Man.
