Urban Award Winners 2005

Seventeen candidates were shortlisted before attending a three day workshop in Manchester. During the workshop the following awards were announced.

£10,000 award winners


Geeneus

Geeneus Location: London
Occupation: Garage/grime producer, engineer, DJ, runs a radio station.
Development areas: Business management and how to move the business forward.


Otillia Ordog

Otillia Ordog Location: Manchester
Occupation: Ortillia manages a rap collective and a breakbeat DJ/producer. She also manages a youth music studio.
Development areas: Business management, marketing and publishing.

Carl Ramsey

Carl Location: London
Occupation: Carl runs an initiative called G-Hopand is also involved in artist management, brand development and marketing.
Development areas: Business management and distribution.


Tor (Isatta Cesay)

Tor Location: London
Occupation: Tor is a UK urban rapper who is regularly out MCing. She also a writer and producer.
Development areas: Distribution, publishing and marketing.

Tor performed for the first time at 2007's Glastonbury Festival, on the BBC's new Introducing... Stage. Since winning the Performing Arts Fund award her music has been recognised by some of the music industry's most influential people, including Radio 1's Zane Lowe and 1Xtra's Ras Kwame, who highlighted her as, 'One of black music's definite future stars.'


Francine Hayfron

Francine Location: Manchester
Occupation: Francine is a radio producer currently producing 'Hot Pot Show' with Treva Whateva and Mr Scruff. She is also a radio workshop facilitator.
Development areas: Radio production skills, business management and getting a live music performance space.


Capo (Chris Stennett)

Capo Location: London
Occupation: Capo films DVDs based around the UK urban music scene; 'Lord of the Decks' is now on its third volume.
Development areas: Camera production, film post-production, writing business plans and understanding the 'corporate world'.


Kid Kanevil (Gerard Roberts)

Kid Kanevil Location: Leeds
Occupation: Kid Kanevil is a hip-hop producer, DJ and journalist.
Development areas: Marketing, studio mastering and business management.
