Aged five: Tried and Tested

The fifth anniversary programme followed the progress of seven of the children during their first term at school.

Our children were about to face one of their most daunting challenges yet - school.

Could Taliesin overcome the trauma of moving house? Would Het match her parents' high expectations?

Were twins Alex and Ivo - the youngest of our children - really ready for school? Why was Eve about to lose her only friend in class?

Did Charlie's chaotic home life prove detrimental? And why did Rhianna, who seemed to have many of the skills required to do well, falter?

The different experiences of each child reflected what thousands of five-year-olds go through in their first term at school.

We discovered what's required to be happy and successful when life dramatically changes.

None of our children had all the skills necessary to settle immediately at school. But their different abilities, talents, outlooks and social backgrounds influenced how they coped during those difficult first few weeks in a new environment.
