William, aged seven

"It's sports day and I'm definitely going to win. I like winning - it's more fun if you win"

William

Active child

According to his mother, Gillian, William is the spitting image of his dad, Neil, who's a vet and keen sportsman.

William plays football and rugby at school, tennis three times a week and swimming once a week. He's always on the go at home, playing with his older siblings, twins Alice and Charles.

Strong ambitions

William

The family live in a large house in the Yorkshire Dales. The children attend private school.

For Gillian, an intelligent woman born into a poorer background, this privileged existence took getting used to. She gives William a lot of attention and, even though she hates sport, always plays outdoor games with him.

William is a bright, confident seven-year-old with a strong competitive streak. Both parents believe he'll be successful. Neil would like his son to become a vet, but Gillian hopes he'll be a professional sportsman.
