Taliesin and his sister

"You're not allowed to flush people down the toilet"

Taliesin

Taliesin's parents

Taliesin

Taliesin's mum, Olivia, grew up in an academic family. She was a discontented child who didn't enjoy school.

She was 19 when her first child, Emily, was born. Five years later, Taliesin arrived. By then, she and her partner, Robin, had separated and she was looking after the children on her own.

Olivia and Robin later reunited and the family moved to a bigger house.

New home

The move didn't work out. Olivia thought it was a rough area, so they moved to a more rural part of the country.

Taliesin is a sensitive and empathetic child and was unhappy about the move. But he soon settled into his new home and school, and made new friends.

He's a bright boy with a great sense of humour, constantly frustrating his mother by making her laugh when she's trying to tell him off.

Love of learning

Taliesin

Olivia's fear is that her children will be unhappy and anxious about learning. She puts a lot of effort into encouraging them not to fail as badly as she feels she did.

Taliesin loves learning and gets on with his homework without much dissent. He has a riotous imagination, which Olivia encourages because, she says, it makes him happy.
