What makes us who we are?

This question is at the heart of Child of Our Time, a project following 25 children - all born around the beginning of the millennium - for their first 20 years.

Are we born or made?

Child of Our Time is following children and their families from a range of genetic, social, geographical and ethnic backgrounds. It's exploring the influences that shape personality and how children adapt to their environments.

Series of experiments

Over the 20 years, experts will conduct a series of tests and experiments. The aim is to build a picture of how the children's upbringing, genes and environment influence their development and personalities. Some of the tests and experiments are available online, so you can try them at home with your own children.

The families

Thank you to all the families who've supported the project with great generosity and enthusiasm. We hope all our viewers learn something about themselves and their children from Child of Our Time and the children's experiences of growing up in the UK.
