Map 1
The solid geology beneath the town.
Geologists call any rock or sediment older than 2 million years the 'solid' geology. They regard any Ice Age or younger sediments as icing on the cake.
The rocks beneath Wallingford are mostly Lower Chalk (a soft chalky mud) with Upper Greensand in the northwest part of town.
(More detail can be found on the British Geological Survey geological map for the area - Sheet 254 Henley-on-Thames 1:50,000 scale.)
