First
on stage, a man in big 70s style shades flounces on with his band
of merry Scotsman.
Kain
play a sort of Bluegrass-Punk-Blues that makes you not tap your
foot, but stomp it with force.

The
few who observe seem to enjoy, not as much as I do though. The singer
prances about like David Johansen in his price and sound more than
a little like him too. Kain are grubby and great, hurrah!
A band
who have been compared to the New York Dolls, unsurprisingly 10,000
Things sound a little similar, but add the Ramones and throw
in a front man with the charisma of several smarter, funnier, better
Liam Gallaghers.
Sam
leads the band with great arrogance and panache, his braces holding
up his trousers, holding back his tremendous libido, while his songs
promote general rudeness throughout.
They
play for less than 40 minutes, they could have played for 80 and
I’d have been more than happy. Sam is strangely cool and his between
song banter is fantastic, he joins us in the crowd towards the end,
trying to promote dance but failing due to the drabness of the almost
pre-pubescent Oxford crowd.
By
the end of the set three of the band are playing off stage right
in front of the tentative crowd and one very drunk man is attempting
a jig of epic proportions.
Clearly
10,000 Things are mildly offended by the turn out, rightly assuming
that people should love them. The Zodiac should have been sold out
tonight, unfortunately…people are fools.
