Veda Park/Crack in the Sky
Veda Park from left: John West, Peter Madams, Pete Oliver, James Culling

Saxophonist John West was overlooked when Morph's sent in their CD.

Now he's got a new band and they've even let him get in the photo!

Even if he does look a little bit embarrassed to be in the picture, it is great to hear another band that feature the talents of Mr West.

Listen to Crack in the Sky
By Veda Park

I wonder if he is some kind of free loader that works with everyone for money and kind words or whether he is a creative genius who changes bands everytime he has an artistic rage.

I guess he's just a popular person. His sax makes him sound like a laid back kind of fellow, easy going and cheery - a bit like Veda Park really.

Peter Madams developed his singing talent in Kenya, whilst juggling mountain goats..
Taken from the band biography

Like they say in their press release it is a very different genre to Oxford's norm. It doesn't stumble into any obvious rock standard.

It sounds like late night driving music, rain splintering the chard's of street lights like a prism on the windscreen as you nod off - probably fatal in a gentle sort of way.

I think they should tour America because I can't see a scene for them in England. It's just that the British seem to repel sax-pop after it killed the post Beatle careers of the fab four and cause Bowie so many problems in the 80's.

Give it a listen and tell us what you thought by emailing oxford.online@bbc.co.uk , I think it deserves three thumbs.
