The
name Larry Love doesn't seem to fit the gnarled Welsh voice reverberating
down the phone.
If
you smoked 100 Marlboroughs a day you'd still need a serious throat
infection and a touch of mild pneumonia before you sounded like
this!
Mr
Love is calling me to talk about their new album, Power in the Blood,
and their war against American imperialism.
But
I am quite afraid of what he's going to say. Having already been
warned off speaking to one of his fellow band members, I felt it
was better to steer the conversation towards life in the band.
"We've
got a dialysis machine and a junkie nurse on the tour bus this time
round," croaks Larry, "so we should be all right."
Hmmm,
it could be difficult getting anything broadcastable out of this
methinks.
They
claim their new album is a more upbeat Alabama 3 than we were given
on their last album, La Peste but it's still too dark for me. Dance
music with country and blues is their way of putting it.
There
is a lot of industrial beat and political ranting with Larry's raw
murderous voice biting into even the sweetest country tune.
Catch
them live at The Zodiac, Oxford on November 2 to judge for yourself.
