Church College's dining hall inspired the Hogwarts dining hall for
the famous sorting ceremony - although they had to build a separate
set for the hall to accommodate all the four Hogwarts houses.

The
outside of Hogwarts is played by the impressive Gloucester Cathedral
in Gloucestershire, but a little closer to home is the setting for
Hagrid's house: the Black Park Country Park in Langley, Berkshire.
One
of the stars of the film, Emma Watson, who plays Harry's sidekick
Hermione Granger, attends Oxford's aptly-named Dragon school. In
an interview with CBBC's Newsround, Emma said that she has some
of the best lines in the film.

An academic
who's shortly to start work at Oxford University agrees with Emma.
Michele Fry, from Gloucestershire, argues that Hermione is the true
star of the Harry Potter books.
Fry wrote a research paper called "Heroes and Heroines: Myth
and Gender Roles in the Harry Potter books", which concluded
that Hermione was the real heroine. Fry argues that Harry was powerless
without Hermione's feminine wiles.
