Before
Thursday night at Cropredy, if you asked me who Lindisfarne were,
I would have said 'the band who accompanied wayward footballer Paul
Gascoigne in a novelty version of Fog on the Tyne'.
Fortunately
for me and rest of the festival goers, Gazza was nowhere to be seen,
not even at the bar!
Heading
down from our campsite at 8.30 on Thursday night, the view of the
arena in front of us seemed more like a Saturday night.
The
attendance seemed high and as it became apparent many of these people
were there to enjoy Lindisfarne.

impressed Gemma and crew. |
Headlining
the first day at Cropredy, Lindisfarne appeared on stage, beer in
hands, to open with a much folkier version of Fog on the Tyne.
The
tunes that were to follow were a mixture of acoustic ballads and
guitar filled folk-rock.
For
two hours we were thoroughly entertained by harmonies and the joyful
banter from the three front men, Billy Mitchell, Dave Hill-Denholm
and Rod Clements.
The
sounds changed extensively as these guys changed their instruments,
for what seemed like every song.
The
crowd really seemed to join in, signing along with the band, although
some tunes were new and very well received.
Not
knowing much of Lindisfarne before this beer soaked set, I was pleasantly
surprised at how much my voice was hoarse the next morning from
shouting for more.
The
guys fortunately obliged by giving us three encores, ending in a
superb tune called Devil of the North.
A
wonderful end to the first day at Cropredy and a not so wonderful
hangover on Friday morning.
Thanks
Lindisfarne, I will be seeing you again.
