By Bill Heine

Is Blue Trapesty a pale reflection of the past or does this band have something to say that is current and critical?

True, the word 'Tapestry' does have a Carole King ring about it, and they did take us on a nostalgic trip in a big yellow taxi ... way up on the roof, but was it worth the ride?

They certainly hit the high notes. A flute solo rose in the night sky like a firework and hovered in the wind until it trickled down our spines.

The 'a capella' songs showed a lovely light touch. But the urgency and power of Blue Tapestry took us beyond memory lane into new territory.

We know they paved paradise and put up a parking lot in the seventies, but the irony and energy of the singing told us that the pavement people might have even more serious and sinister designs on our lives in the new century.

Somehow this group got behind the old songs and infused them with a new imagination and depth.

Blue tapestry wove a vivid spell over that field at Cropredy. They are vibrant, strong and they pack a powerful picture. Don't just listen to them, go and see them. Worth a very long ride.
