MusicYou are in: Oxford > Entertainment > Music > Cornbury Festival ![]() Cornbury Cornbury FestivalBy Tim Bearder The family-friendly festival in the grounds of a stately home. Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th July New bands opportunityOn Sunday the 12th of July BBC Oxford Introducing will be teaming up with Cornbury Music Festival to offer a fantastic opportunity to a local band. ![]() Maria Illett at Cornbury 2008 The winning act will get the chance to open up on the main stage on the Sunday ahead of acts like The Sugababes and The Pretenders. Last year Maria Illett and her band did the honours and this year BBC Oxford is looking for an equally brilliant band to get behind. The deadline for the competition is close and so if you fancy playing at one of the county’s biggest festivals you need to move fast. The competition for this brilliant opportunity was fierce. If you were in a band that missed out this time there are plenty of music festivals across the summer which we’ll be putting acts forward to. And we’ll definitely be giving your tracks a spin on the Introducing show in the very near future. The five finalists were: Lights Action Music Journalist Mick Wall made the first cut and decided on Lights Action and Matt Kilford but unfortunately Lights Action had to withdraw from the competition at the last moment so he chose Natureboy instead. Hugh Phillimore the event organiser then chose him as the winning band! Check out his Myspace site at the top right of this page for more details about this brilliant artist.

At the top of the impressive festival site, contrasting with the grandeur of the family home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick, big wheel and funfair rides entertain the children. The smaller stages have the fringe acts and hotly tipped artists to entertain the teens and the main stage is packed to the gunnels with a pantheon of the world’s musical legends. Last year Paul Simon, no less, headlined the festival and this year has its fair share of big names on the bill. ![]() Sharleen Spiteri It’s also worth pointing out that BBC Oxford are broadcast partners with Cornbury which means that all weekend you can enjoy sets from the main stage and behind the scene interviews whether you're at home tending your garden or taking a snooze back at the tent on site. With BBC Oxford on your radio you can enjoy this fantastic occasion where ever you are. Line-up:
