The Cowley Carnival 2008

Cowley Road Carnival 2008

Oxfordshire's answer to Notting Hill took over East Oxford on the 6th July 2008 with a wide range of music, dance and performances. BBC Oxford was there through the day too!

The Cowley Road Carnival has now become the largest community event in Oxfordshire, attracting over 30,000 people throughout the course of the day.

Street performance at the carnival

The theme of the carnival for 2008 was Masquerade!

As ever there was a range of stages and sound systems, with music for all tastes. From urban, dance & rap, to folk, acoustic and up-and-coming bands, the carnival had it all!

Plus there was the must see procession which started at noon at the Plain. The flamboyant costumes in their rainbow colours and irresistible rhythms of the dancers kept feet tapping and awoke in all that carnival feeling!

Gospel Choir

BBC Oxford were broadcast partners of the carnival, bringing you news, interviews and an insight into the work that goes into the carnival in the build up to the day.

PLUS we were there LIVE with presenters Dominic Cotter, Tim Bearder and DJ G from the Urban Gospel Experience.
