The Round the World Yacht Race

In 2008 Didcot's Steph Hills played her part in ten a month ocean race.

Interesting Facts

The oldest crew member in the race is David Pugh, who turns 71 this year.

The fleet repairs approximately 3 miles of damaged sail during the race.

Crews bake fresh bread aboard the yachts every day.

Each yacht uses 250 teabags each week.

Around 17 miles of toilet roll will be used during the race.

Ten yachts will completed a circumnavigation of the globe that took its sailors across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans with over 10 months and 35,000 miles of adventure.

Half of the crews involved had no previous sailing experience and all have put their lives on hold whilst they take on this unique opportunity.

Steph Hills was onboard the Durban 2010 and gave BBC Oxford updates of her journey throughout May, June and July 2008.
