Your RAF Memories....

Looking back on 90 years of the Royal Air Force.

Tuesday 1st April is the 90th Anniversary of the founding of the Royal Air Force.

The RAF has had a significant impact on Oxfordshire, with numerous bases in the county, two of which are still operating.

BBC Oxford's Breakfast show will be broadcasting live from RAF Benson, and will also be going behind the scenes of RAF Brize Norton. But we want to hear from you!

Did you or a member of your family serve with the RAF and were based in Oxfordshire? What's your memories of serving in the Airforce, and how did it affect your life?

Do get in touch by emailing oxford@bbc.co.uk or alternatively use the comments form below.

You can also check out our previous features on the local RAF by clicking on the links on the top right hand side of this page.

My father joined the RAF during WWII, and later rejoined, working in air movements. He also served for 28 years, and consequently I attended schools in such exotic places as Malaya, Kinloss, on the Moray Firth, and Aden in South Yemen. One of his last postings was to Abingdon, when Dalton Barracks was occupied by the RAF. When he retired from the RAF in 1968, our family settled in Oxford, where he worked for Robert Maxwell's Pergamon Press. He died in 1997.

I served in the RAF from 1961 to 1983, a period which encompassed the first Kuwait crisis to the Falklands War. I was stationed in the UK, Near and Middle East theatres and latterly in Germany. Initially, I worked as an electronic engineer, then flew as a aircrew in Shackletons and Nimrods and then finally served as a long-suffering air traffic controller. Happy memories with few regrets!
