Truck and Wood 2008

News about Truck’s two big festivals has been announced at a special launch gig in London.

The line-up of the Truck Festival in the South Oxfordshire village of Steventon is always quite a secretive affair. The organisers prefer to surprise their punters with bands they’ve never heard of but will almost certainly love, though you can also bet on a selection of acts from the stable of regulars. Essentially it’s about the feel of the occasion rather than the latest headline act selling out the festival to people only there to see a handful of bands.

At a launch party in London on Tuesday the 4th March 2008 it was announced that Noah And The Whale, Camera Obscura, The Television Personalities, Emmy The Great, plus Small Faces Legend Ian Maclagan & The Bump Band have all been lined-up to grace the various stages at the mini festival.

There were also details of the people involved behind the stages. Vacuous Pop are taking over the barn stage and Abort, Retry, Fail? are bringing the likes of Robots In Disguise to the Market Tent while they hold court. Those promoters will be familiar to regulars of the Oxford music scene and there are plenty of other local organisers bringing their unique brands to various spots around the festival site.

Also announced were further details of Truck’s newest offering – Wood. Now we know that the event at Braziers Park in Oxfordshire will have something of an ecological theme. The house was a former residence of the author Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond. It is now used as college where people give their time freely to help maintain the estate and learn about environmental stewardship.

Tickets, priced £60, went on sale at 11:11 am Wednesday 2nd April from the following outlets:
Oxford Centre - SCRIBBLER
Cowley Road – SS20, MUSIC BOX, VIDEOSYNCRATIC
Summertown - VIDEOSYNCRATIC 01865 616969
Abingdon - MOSTLY BOOKS
Didcot - WINDJAMMER
Wallingford - TOBY ENGLISH BOOKS
Witney - RAPTURE
Reading - GUITAR WORKS
High Wycombe - COUNTER CULTURE

For the moment the tickets are only available to Oxfordshire residents so that local people don't miss out on the increasingly popular festival.

Radiohead have already made it clear that they are only going to play events in future that are properly ecologically sound and the Isle of Wight Festival promoter John Giddings is investing the money saved by Lilly Allen’s no show into making his festival more environmentally friendly. It would seem that Truck are already way ahead of the pack on this front.

The announced music line-up on the two stages at Wood include: Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Ashley Hutchings’ Rainbow Catchers With Special Guest Judy Dunlop, King Creosote, Danny And The Champions Of The World, The Coal Porters and, as is usual in these things, there are more to be announced. Wood takes place on May 16th - 18th, 2008 and Truck is July 19th & 20th 2008. More details can be found on the label's website at the top right of this page.
